Is peptide therapy covered by insurance?
Sometimes. Insurers may cover FDA-approved peptide medicines for approved uses, often with prior authorization. Compounded and wellness peptides are rarely covered.

The short answer
Whether peptide therapy is covered by insurance depends on the drug, the reason it is prescribed and your plan. FDA-approved peptide medicines, such as insulin and the GLP-1 drugs for type 2 diabetes, are often on formularies for their approved uses, frequently with prior authorization. Coverage for weight loss is less consistent, and Medicare Part D has long excluded drugs used for weight loss, apart from limited exceptions. Compounded peptides, and peptides prescribed for wellness, anti-aging or recovery, are rarely covered. Health savings and flexible spending accounts can pay for prescribed drugs that count as qualified medical expenses under IRS rules, but the specific expense has to qualify. LiveNow Longevity is a cash-pay clinic, so ask your insurer about any reimbursement before you begin.
What insurers usually decide on
Coverage turns on three questions: is the drug FDA-approved, is it prescribed for an approved use, and is it on your plan’s formulary? A plan may also require prior authorization, records of your diagnosis, or a trial of a cheaper drug first. Two people with the same prescription can get different answers because their plans differ.
Medicare works differently. Federal law excludes drugs used for weight loss from the standard Part D drug benefit, which is why most people with Medicare have not had coverage for weight-loss medicines. A temporary Medicare GLP-1 Bridge now covers certain medicines through 2027 for people who meet strict criteria. Our Medicare coverage explainer has the details.
Paying with an HSA or FSA
HSA and FSA funds are for qualified medical expenses, and IRS Publication 502 includes prescribed medicines and drugs. The IRS separates medical care from spending that only supports general health. A weight-loss program counts only when it treats a specific disease diagnosed by a physician, such as obesity, hypertension or heart disease.
A wellness or longevity label does not make an expense eligible. Check the specific charge and any documentation your plan requires with your plan administrator before you pay, and see our HSA and FSA guidance for how billing works at our clinic.

Related questions
Does insurance cover semaglutide or tirzepatide?
Often for type 2 diabetes, less often for weight loss. Plans decide drug by drug and use by use, and many require prior authorization. Call the number on your insurance card and ask about the specific brand, form and diagnosis your prescriber would use.
Can I use my HSA or FSA for peptide therapy?
Possibly, if the specific expense is a qualified medical expense under IRS rules and your plan’s terms. Prescribed drugs can qualify, while spending that only supports general health does not. Confirm with your plan administrator before paying.
Does LiveNow Longevity take insurance?
No. LiveNow Longevity is a cash-pay clinic. If you have insurance, ask your insurer about the specific care and any reimbursement before assuming it will be covered, and check laboratory and medication coverage separately. A covered option elsewhere may cost you less. Our cost page explains what care costs here.
